Welcome the newest and most exciting addition to the UK's orienteering calender - THE EDINURGH SPRINT SERIES!
Inspiration
There have been many races that have given us the motivation to put this series on which have all stemed from being in Switzerland and watching the infamous Jamie Stevenson sprint Gold medal win. There are two more recent events, however, that have pushed us to be a bit more proactive about it.
In 2004 Team Nopesports Brooner Brown put on an event in edinburgh with the snappy title of 'The Super Special Saturday Sprint Series'. This was a low key event but with high profile runners and took us into 3 Edinburgh parks. It was simple one course, one class format but very enjoyable and a good days racing in the beautiful Edinburgh sunshine!
The 2nd race is an annual event organised by STAG Orienteering club. We competed in the Glasgow Park Championships in 2005 which again is a 3 park race series with the location of the next park kept secret until you've finished the previous one - cunning eh! The racing went down really well as well as the craic of the whole event.
Aim
After doing the glasgow race, thinking how we would adapt the format and thinking about the venues we have in Edinburgh, we thought, why not put our own race on!

Using one of the most picturesque cities in Europe as the backdrop, with its mixture of old town, new town and parks, Edinburgh is the perfect host city with some fantastic opportunties for sprint races. This event aims to allow you to sample some of what this Capital city can offer while combining it with some exciting, fast and furious racing - but...
We couldn't just copy the previous races, no, no, no... We are mixing up in terms of format! The format will not be released until nearer the time and may change from year-to-year. This is to keep the series fresh.
All in all we hope to bring you a fast and furious event, with fresh varied formats, and overall, a great days racing!!
